Description

The Nutrition Volunteer is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Community based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) protocol as well as interacting with Health workers, Village Health teams, care groups and communities to ensure early identification, referral, management and prevention of malnutrition.
Other key deliverables include supporting capacity-building activities for community structures (VHTs and Lead mothers).
The role has a strong focus on ensuring an impactful approach to realize the project goals.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

 Ensure that health facilities and VHTs are supported with to ensure nutrition screening at all contact points, case management of Malnourished children and pregnant and lactating women among the targeted beneficiaries.

 Ensure complete and effective referrals for identified malnourished children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women Participate in the periodic Weight for Height nutrition screening to assess for GAM level in the community

 Assist in the development and dissemination of IEC materials on IMAM and MIYCAN

 Participate in conducting sensitization sessions on nutrition and health education with key essential nutrition actions, infant and young child feeding and prevention of hygiene related diseases in refugee settlements and host communities

 Ensure functionality of the IYCF corners within health facilities and in the community.

 Take lead in establishing baby friendly health facilities with evidence of progress towards BFHI certification by the MoH.

Requirements

A minimum of a Degree in Nutrition, Public health or any related field from a recognized institute.

Others/Extra Details

Understanding of Nutrition, WASH and food security and livelihoods technical and theoretical concepts.
 Excellent communication skills and ability to write good reports
 Ability to work in a refugee setting is desirable.
 Extremely flexible with the ability to cope with stressful situations
 Knowledge of the local languages (Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Runyankore) is an added advantage
 Culturally sensitive
 Fluency in written and spoken English
 Leadership skills and ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions independently
